Melaka Food Highlights

We stayed at the Time Hotel Melaka which is located near the city centre in Melaka. The good part about this hotel is that it is located near to the major shopping malls like Dataran Pahlawan and Mahkota Parade, and is walkable to the famous Jonker Street. We went there during a peak season and the room rate was relatively cheap at SGD37.74/night. However, the downside is that the hotel facilities are quite bad. Our room card couldn't access our room despite several changes and update of their system, so we ended up having to request for their staff to open our room door for us every time. Apart from that, there was no hair dryer available and no connection to wifi in room at all. We won't recommend this hotel unless you are going for the cheap room rate. Personally, we prefer the Fenix Inn, which is even nearer to their shopping malls, and is also where we stayed at in our previous trip (Read the entry here).

Nyonya Makko Restaurant

Along our hotel stretch at Jalan Melaka Raya, there are Watsons, hair salon, massage parlours, restaurants and eateries. We went to the Nyonya Makko Restaurant along the Jalan Melaka Raya stretch for a Nyonya lunch.

Tidbits & Towels (RM1.80)

Pong Teh (RM10)

Tapioca Leaves (RM7)

Tauhoo Makko (RM7)

I quite like the Pong Teh as the sauce is flavourful and goes well with rice. Tapioca Leaves were pretty normal, nothing much to pinpoint. But I find myself don't quite fancy the Tauhoo as it is quite
blend.

Total Bill: RM30.20

Restaurant Sin Yin Hoe

Somewhere near the Jonker Street at Lorong Hang Jebat there are a few coffee shops and there is stall just outside the coffee shop which he recommended for me to try. Sadly, I find it a disappointment as the oyster omelette is not up to mark. As seen in the picture below, the oysters were tiny and the omelette were chopped into tiny pieces. This small plate of oyster omelette actually costed RM8, which is rather steep.

Bibik House Cendol

This Cendol eating house is location at Jonker Street and tables were set up outside the shop for customers to have their bowls of cendol.

Cendol (RM4)

After adding in the jellies and mixing - ready to dig in!

I find the cendol average. I hope to find a better cendol on my next visit. But if you visit malacca, you should try the cendol, as it is one of their specialities.

ABC Nyonya Cendol

Next up, we would like to introduce the star of our this Melaka trip. The ABC Nyonya Cendol Stall is located outside Aik Cheong Coffee at Jonker Street at night.

Assam Laksa

This is the to-die-for assam laksa which we had in Malacca. The soup base is sweet and sour, and the noodles are very smooth and chewy.

Oyster Omelette

We had this oyster omelette at one of the stalls along the stalls in the same area. Not bad. There are also several other stalls in the area, and to my surprise there was even a sushi stall! I strongly recommend you to prepare your stomach for the food stalls when you visit Jonker Street.

Restoran Tim Sum Man Ting Siang

Man Ting Siang Restaurant is located along the same stretch as the well-known Restoran Ban Lee Siang Satay Celup at Jalan Ong Kim Wee. This dim sum restaurant is an old coffee shop which sells cheap and decent dim sum.

Fried Carrot cake

Fried Prawn Dumpling

I particularly like the fried carrot cake which comes in big carrot cake chunks with egg bits. It tastes quite different from those I had before in Singapore which has bigger eggs spreading over smaller carrot cake chunks.

Restoran Hau Wang

We went to this zi char place on our way from Malacca to Johor. Thumbs up for the cheap and good zi char.

Hotplat Tofu (RM6)

Fried Kai lan (RM 6)

Sweet and Sour Pork (RM8)

Overall, they serve decent and cheap zi char for 2 person at RM25. It is not located near the Causeway if you're going in from Singapore and the place is not bustling happening, so I would recommend you to drop by if you're heading back Singapore from Melaka.
